We Believe. don't we?

When we work with a Congregation or Vestry we often focus on what makes them unique.

“Why is Christ Church Matagorda a different, special & wonderful expression of Christ from all other Churches?”

A good tool for this is the Core Values, Mission & Vision Process that helps the group articulate their DNA, plans and goals.

But we have to begin at a more fundamental level.

Beginning not with what differentiates us but with what unites us.

Our Core Values:

Hear what our Lord Jesus Christ saith:
v    Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
This is the first and great commandment.

And the second is like unto it:
v    Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.

On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets. Matthew 22:37-40

Our Mission:

Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." Matthew 28:18-20 (NIV)

Our Vision:
After this I looked, and there was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, robed in white, with palm branches in their hands. They cried out in a loud voice, saying,
"Salvation belongs to our God who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb!" Rev. 7:9

Only when we have done the ground work of Catechesis, teaching the faith, can we fruitfully seek our unique way of accomplishing it.

Too often this is assumed without being tested. Just because a group of people all show up at the same place and the same time each week does not automatically promise that they believe the same things. Think: Bus Stop, Train Platform, Air Port.

People come to Church for all sorts of reasons, that is just a fact. But, if they are coming and are not learning the faith, that is a failure.
